Formed in Melbourne in 2002, the Go Set emerged from the vision of singer, songwriter, and guitarist Justin Keenan, whose style merges an aggressive punk drive with acoustic instruments and Celtic folk elements. Drawing from influences such as the Pogues, the Clash, Midnight Oil, and Billy Bragg, the group unveiled its distinctive approach on the 2004 release Sing a Song of Revolution, a vigorous collection marked by pointed political and social commentary. For the 2006 album The Hungry Mile, the band enlisted Radio Birdman’s Rob Younger as producer. The 2007 follow-up A Journey for a Nation shifted toward a stronger folk emphasis and marked a critical breakthrough, earning widespread praise across Australia and New Zealand. Maintaining their output, Keenan and the ensemble issued their fourth album, Rising, in 2008, which reclaimed a harder-edged punk sound. Amid extensive live commitments that included New Zealand, Japan, and repeated European dates, they issued their debut concert recording, Another Round in Melbourne Town, along with the EP Fallen Fortunes. The self-titled studio album of 2012 adopted a leaner, rock-centered approach and preceded three further years of rigorous touring throughout Europe and North America. After withdrawing to a coastal studio in Victoria, the band finished its sixth studio album and major-label debut, Rolling Sound, which appeared in 2015 alongside the DVD These Are the Days.
