The band’s name derives from the Lakota term for the Fetterman Battle, also called the Fetterman Massacre, that unfolded in Wyoming during 1866. Crazy Horse commanded the warriors whose triumph ended with the deaths of 100 white soldiers. The Brooklyn duo Jason Friedman and Eleanore Everdell merge synth pop, post-punk, and dream pop to produce tracks that feel simultaneously suited to the dance floor and the bedroom. Friedman supplies guitars and beats while Everdell handles vocals and keyboards. After a handful of London performances drew notice from Warp Records, the label signed the act and issued the debut single “Undressed in Dresden” in April 2010. The EP This Desert appeared the following month, and the self-titled full-length arrived that autumn. On the 2012 follow-up Red Night the pair pursued a gentler and more purely electronic direction.
