Biography
Originating from Dunedin in New Zealand, the folk-pop outfit the Magick Heads was fronted by vocalist Jane Sinnott and guitarist Robert Scott, who had earlier played bass in the seminal Clean while also leading his longstanding project the Bats. The original 1991 lineup featured drums from David Mitchell, guitarist of 3D, though additional musicians rotated through the ranks thereafter. Sinnott and Scott brought in drummer Jim Strang to complete their 1994 Flying Nun debut Before We Go Under. Bassist Richard Strang, Jim’s brother, joined for the 1997 follow-up Woody; the group disbanded shortly after finishing that record, yet 1999’s Transvection collected previously unreleased material.
