Biography
In the wake of Stumpy Joe's dissolution, several of its former members came together in 1993 to launch a punk-infused power-pop group first called the Glory Stompers, though the name soon became the Model Rockets to avoid conflict with another identically named band. The founding roster featured guitarist and lead vocalist John Ramberg, guitarist Grant Johnson, bassist Boyd Remillard, and drummer Graham Black. Following the release of a local Seattle single and a compilation track, the Model Rockets issued their debut album, Hilux, on Lucky Records, with production handled by ex-Young Fresh Fellow Scott McCaughey. Johnson departed in late 1994, after which former Chemistry Set member Scott Sutherland stepped in on guitar. The group then moved to the C/Z label, where their second album, 1996's Snatch It Back and Hold It, was promoted via a successful tour of Spain.
