Biography
The Procussions, an underground rap outfit, first assembled in Colorado Springs, Colorado during 1998. Its founding roster included Mr. J. Medeiros, Stro Elliot (also known as Stro the 89th Key), Resonant (also known as Rez), Qq, and Vise Versa. Qq exited early after collapsing onstage and receiving a multiple sclerosis diagnosis. Momentum built through the singles “All That It Takes” and “Leave Her Alone,” along with opening bills alongside Run-D.M.C. and Common, prompting the group’s relocation to Los Angeles, where Vise Versa soon departed to establish Deux Process.
The remaining three members issued their debut, …As Iron Sharpens Iron, on the Basementalism imprint in 2003. A subsequent session with the Sound Providers’ Jason Skills appeared as Up All Night on Japan’s 3D label in 2004. They then moved to the revived Rawkus roster for 2006’s 5 Sparrows for 2 Cents. Rez stepped away afterward to focus on graphic and Web design, while Medeiros issued the solo set Of Gods and Girls (2007). The trio disbanded in 2008, yet Mr. J. and Stro stayed active, collaborating on Medeiros’ Friends Enemies Apples Apples (2009), Saudade (2011), and the single “Pale Blue Dot” (2012).
In 2012 the pair reconvened as the Procussions for a Colorado performance and launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund a new album. Supporters received the completed project the following April, while a five-track teaser EP reached the wider public; five months later the full self-released album became available to all.
