Biography
During the closing years of the 1950s, the Rock-a-Teens ranked among the most authentic primitive rock 'n roll ensembles, a name not to be mistaken for an unrelated 1990s band that later adopted the same title. Their greatest surge of attention arose from a lone standout achievement, the bracing 1959 Roulette single that paired “Woo-Hoo” with “Untrue.” Accounts that appear largely credible maintain the group laid down the stomping A-side and its companion track inside the back room of a record store before selling the results to the Dorian label. Although Dorian thereby acquired ownership, Roulette alone placed “Woo-Hoo” in stores and on jukeboxes that year, after which the musicians slipped from view.
