Biography
Hailing originally from Fitchburg, Massachusetts, siblings Lee Roy and Elaine Roy of the Roys duo spent their formative years in Coal Branch, New Brunswick, Canada, immersed in bluegrass and old-time traditions. By age nine Lee was already performing mandolin with a regional bluegrass ensemble, while Elaine first sang publicly at ten. The pair soon teamed up, shaping a hybrid style that fused bluegrass, country, folk, and gospel through incisive original material and the distinctive vocal blend only siblings produce. After cultivating an audience throughout New England they relocated to Nashville, established Pedestal Records, and issued the 2006 albums The Roys and Good Days before aligning with Rural Rhythm Records for the subsequent releases Lonesome Whistle in 2011, New Day Dawning in 2012, and Gypsy Runaway Train in 2013.
