Formed in 1996, the Spinto Band is an indie pop ensemble whose electronica-infused songs evoke the styles of Pavement, Of Montreal, and Field Music. Nick Krill led the project after discovering lyrics composed by his late grandfather, Roy Spinto, which prompted him to assemble the group. The original roster featured Jon Eaton, Albert Birney, Thomas and Sam Hughes, and Jeffrey and Joey Hobson, though Birney later exited to attend art school. Over the following eight years the members issued seven albums on their own before signing with Bar-None, which released the band’s eighth album, Nice and Nicely Done, in 2005. Strong critical response prompted Virgin UK to re-release the record the next year. During the ensuing three years the Spinto Band appeared on the Jools Holland Show and at the SXSW festival while issuing several singles through EMI and Virgin. Their ninth album, Moonwink, arrived in fall 2008 on Fierce Panda and Park the Van.
