Biography
Formed in Jamaica during 1964, the Techniques operated as a rocksteady vocal harmony ensemble. Among its members stood vocalist Junior Menz, formerly affiliated with the Paragons. By 1965 the group scored several hits, among them “Little Did You Know,” issued on Duke Reid’s Treasure Isle label. Further acclaim followed in 1967 via the single “Love Is Not a Gamble,” which also appeared in the U.K. on the fledgling Trojan imprint. Although reggae began to rise and dominate the next year, vocal groups remained active, enabling the Techniques to notch two additional successes: their Jamaican Song Festival entry “Run Come Celebrate” and their version of the Temptations’ signature tune “My Girl.” Because the Techniques’ recordings were dispersed across dozens of compilations, Heartbeat’s 1993 collection Run Come Celebrate supplied a convenient single-disc gathering of numerous tracks by the group.
