Volumes, an American metalcore ensemble from Los Angeles, California, emerged among the first acts to shape the groove-oriented, palm-muted djent style. The band surfaced around 2010 and delivered its initial full-length Via the following year, an album that joined later releases No Sleep in 2014 and Different Animals in 2017 in attracting strong support from metal listeners around the world. Across repeated roster shifts, with bassist Raad Soudani as the lone constant presence, Volumes sustained their core sound of forceful breakdowns, taut melodic riffs, and nu-metal accents.

Guitarists and songwriters Diego Farias and Daniel Braunstein established the project in 2009. It later expanded to six members through the addition of vocalists Michael Barr and Gus Farias, Diego’s brother, plus bassist Raad Soudani and drummer Chris Khoury. Braunstein departed before the 2010 debut EP The Concept of Dreaming appeared, after which Daniel Schwartz took his place. In 2011 the group joined a North American run with Arsonists Get All the Girls, the Contortionist, and Structures, an outing that preceded the Mediaskare Records release of Via. Also that year Khoury and Schwartz exited, prompting the arrival of drummer Nick Ursich. The sophomore album No Sleep surfaced in 2014 and was promoted through the band’s first complete U.S. Vans Warped Tour. Barr stepped away in 2015 and was succeeded by former Bury Your Dead vocalist Myke Terry, who appeared on the well-received Different Animals issued by Fearless Records in 2017. The 2019 Coming Clean EP documented the return of Michael Barr alongside the departures of Gus Farias and co-founder Diego Farias, the latter of whom died at age twenty-seven only one week after leaving the band.
