Biography
Formed amid the early-'90s crest of new-revival punk rock alongside acts such as Sonic Youth, Nirvana, and Mudhoney, the Wisdom of Harry never garnered the widespread attention enjoyed by their post-punk peers. Their sound drew from the atmospheric textures of My Bloody Valentine, Mogwai, and Catherine Wheel, aligning the group with the dreamy sensibility of the Wurlitzer Jukebox label; Weather Prophets singer/songwriter Pete Astor fronts the endeavor. After gaining notice through associations with Andrew Weatherall and Cornelius, the Wisdom of Harry joined the Matador roster in the late '90s. The 1999 release Stars of Super 8 compiled earlier recordings, while House of Binary appeared the following year.
