Biography
Tom Tripp works as a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer whose sound fuses stylized alt-R&B with electro-pop. Born in Caledonian Road, North London, to Nigerian parents, he began crafting beats at age 12. Self-taught on guitar, bass, and drums, he also explored home recording and production techniques. In late 2016, at 21, he dropped a demo of his first single, “Aurelia,” which drew notice from the music blogosphere and from alternative R&B artist Nao. She issued the track officially on her Little Tokyo imprint in early 2017. Mura Masa soon enlisted Tripp for the single “Helpline,” after which Tripp put out his debut EP, RED, on his own Prime Sound label that October. Geffen Records in the U.S. and Polydor in the U.K. signed him ahead of the next project’s lead single, “Loving You More,” which appeared in May 2018. The BLACK EP followed later that year. In 2019 he released a second EP, Flag, which contained the track “Glow.”
