Biography
Electric violinist Tracy Silverman launched his professional career at age 13 with an appearance alongside the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Following studies at the Chicago Musical College, he earned admission to Juilliard and trained there with Ivan Galamian and Sam Rhodes. He performed with orchestras led by Leonard Bernstein, Gerard Schwartz, Sixten Ehrling and many additional conductors, while also joining the experimental New York City group Stradivarius. After settling in Minneapolis, Silverman created the kindred ensemble Motherlode, which later transformed into the trio Gutbucket. He devoted the next four years to touring with the avant-jazz outfit Turtle Island String Quartet, then moved to Oakland, CA and opened his personal studio, GutLab. In parallel with producing and performing on numerous Windham Hill releases, he maintained a steady partnership with guitarist Alvaro Pierri as the duo Altra.
