Biography
Growing up in her hometown of Houston, Texas, Trish Murphy built an extensive foundation in music from childhood onward. Her father, himself a struggling musician, served as the initial spark, prompting her to provide backup vocals for him throughout grade school. Over the ensuing years, albums by Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen rose to the top of her personal favorites, joined by an abiding interest in philosophy that eventually earned her a BA in the subject.
She chose the path of a performing artist over the pressures of conventional employment and started playing local shows around town. In 1997 she issued her debut album, Crooked Mile, entirely on her own. That same year’s rigorous touring itinerary took her across the United States and Europe, including a week-long appearance at the celebrated Lilith Fair, which helped spread her narrative-driven songwriting style to audiences abroad. The momentum from those performances led directly to the 1999 follow-up, Rubies on the Lawn.
