The roots rock collective Truth & Salvage Co., based in North Carolina, came together in 2005 around six musicians: guitarist and vocalist Tim Jones, keyboardist and vocalist Walker Young, guitarist and vocalist Scott Kinnebrew, drummer and vocalist Bill Smith, keyboard player Adam Grace, and bassist Joe Edel. Four of the members wrote songs, and the ensemble drew on experience from both coasts to shape a distinctive sound that merged Southern rock with indie pop, refining the style first in Los Angeles before fully developing it amid the North Carolina mountains. Their self-titled debut, issued by Silver Arrow Records in November 2009, was produced by Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes. The band promoted the record through live dates that featured multiple summer festival performances the following year. Joe Edel departed in 2011; Frank DiVanna stepped in as bassist at first, yet Dean Moore assumed the role by year’s end. Work on a follow-up began in 2012 with Jon Ashley helping to produce, and the completed Pick Me Up appeared in July 2013.
