Delta Spirit, an American indie rock ensemble, crafts an atmospheric and anthemic retro-rock sound laced with country, blues, and folk inflections alongside occasional electronic accents. The group surfaced in 2007 via Ode to Sunshine and secured mainstream traction in the 2010s through its self-titled third album and Into the Wide, the latter reaching their highest chart placement to date. After a brief hiatus during which lead vocalist and guitarist Matthew Logan Vasquez issued three solo albums, the band resurfaced in 2020 with fifth long-player What Is There and followed two years later with the electronic-leaning One Is One.

Stylistically poised between indie rock and alt-country, Delta Spirit comprises bassist Jon Jameson, drummer Brandon Young, vocalist Matthew Vasquez, multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Kelly Winrich, and guitarist Will McLaren. The collective originated in 2004 after Jameson and Young disbanded their earlier San Diego-based emo outfit Noise Ratchet and aligned with Vasquez, Winrich, and founding guitarist Sean Walker in pursuit of a rootsier approach. They issued debut EP I Think I've Found It in 2006 and toured with Cold War Kids and Dr. Dog before self-releasing first full-length Ode to Sunshine the following year; Rounder Records subsequently signed the band and reissued a remastered edition in 2008.

Praised for both recorded output and live performances, the musicians began tracking songs for their second album at Prairie Sun Studios in 2009, resulting in History from Below, which arrived in June 2010. Walker exited just before the self-titled third album landed in 2012, at which point McLaren joined; soon after, the group relocated from Long Beach, California to Brooklyn, New York. In 2013 they contributed the exclusive track "Running" to the soundtrack for AMC series The Walking Dead.

Delta Spirit reemerged in 2014 with Into the Wide, a darker and heavier collection written and recorded in the practice space they reconstructed near an Atlanta shipping yard following Hurricane Sandy's destruction, working with producer Ben Allen, whose credits include Animal Collective and Deerhunter. The album marked their strongest commercial and critical showing yet, while Vasquez simultaneously issued solo singles and EPs that culminated in 2016's Solicitor Returns. After a six-year break, the band returned with the potent and inward-looking What Is There in 2020, then issued the sonically adventurous One Is One in 2022, incorporating electronic elements into its expansive Americana framework.
