Guitarist Mauser, born Maurycy Stefanowicz, launched UnSun in 2006 after completing a decade-long stint alongside the established Polish thrash outfit Vader. The new venture took an entirely separate stylistic route, focusing on melodic gothic rock and metal, and placed Aya—also known as Anna Stefanowicz—at the forefront with her distinctive, siren-like vocals. Bassist Heinrich, whose real name is Filip Halucha, and drummer Vaaver, real name Wawrzyniec Dramowicz, completed the lineup. The band issued its first full-length recording, The End of Life, in 2008, followed by Clinic for Dolls in 2010, yet neither release enabled the newcomers to stand out in an intensely competitive market. One of the ensemble’s most notable milestones, an appearance at Belgium’s Metal Female Voices Fest VII, underscores just how difficult that landscape proved to be. Reports surfaced in 2010 that both Heinrich and Vaaver had departed, though UnSun continues to operate as an active project.
