The VeggieTales franchise, built around computer-animated garden vegetables imparting Bible stories and Sunday-school lessons through an array of television programs and films, also generated an extensive catalog of recordings stretching from VeggieTales: Veggie Tunes through VeggieTales: On the Road with Bob & Larry. Introduced during the 1990s, the property maintained its momentum well into the new millennium by reaching audiences via digital television services and streaming audio platforms. Around 2020 a fresh edition of the long-running series returned to the screen, accompanied by fresh releases such as the 2021 album Fruit of the Spirit Songs.

Created within the family-oriented media firm Big Idea, VeggieTales originated from Phil Vischer’s desire to produce wholesome entertainment grounded in clear ethical principles. Vischer established both the company and the series in 1993 alongside Mike Nawrocki, enlisting fellow artists and recent art-school graduates to complete the inaugural episode, Where’s God When I’m S-Scared?, just before Christmas of that year. Sales of VeggieTales videos reached 130,000 units by 1995 and surpassed 750,000 the following year; by 2001 the cumulative total exceeded 20 million copies. The associated albums achieved comparable commercial results. Beyond the brief early-2000s offshoot featuring Larry the Cucumber’s superhero persona Larryboy, the VeggieTales world ventured into Saturday-morning animation in 2006. Later the characters settled into streaming television with the 2014 debut of VeggieTales in the House. The following year saw the arrival of the expansive collection 150 All-Time Favorite Songs!. Coinciding with the revival of The VeggieTales Show on the Trinity Broadcasting Network, the seasonal project The Best Christmas Gift Songs and More appeared in late 2019, and Fruit of the Spirit Songs followed two years afterward.
