Biography
Two disbanded New York City groups, the Bogmen and Garden Variety, provided the origins for Vic Thrill. Once those ensembles ended, key participants from both convened in N.Y.C. to engage in spontaneous musical sessions that veered toward unconventional paths. As the leading figure from the Bogmen, Billy Campion also operated a hub for inventive ideas called the Vic Thrill Salon within Williamsburg. He adopted the name Vic Thrill for himself and assembled a lineup featuring guitarist Saturn Missile, whose background included Anthony Rizzo from Garden Variety, along with Aure Dextra handling bass and keyboards plus Clubber X on drums. This ensemble crafted a distinctive style reminiscent of David Bowie during his Ziggy Stardust period, yet incorporating contemporary electronic elements, an affinity for polyrhythmic global sounds, and an emphasis on movement for the Thin White Duke persona.
