Biography
The psychedelic outfit Violeta de Outono came together in August 1985 when guitarist Fábio Golfetti, who entered the world in 1960 in São Paulo, SP, joined forces with bassist Ângelo Pastorello (born 1959, São Paulo, SP) and drummer Cláudio Souza (born 1959, São Paulo, SP). Drawing strong inspiration from Pink Floyd, the musicians had previously experimented in various short-lived projects dating back to 1981, among them Lux, AMT-1, Ultimato, Zero, and Fragata. Widely regarded as Brazil’s finest exponents of the psychedelic style, they issued their debut album Violeta de Outono on the independent imprint Wop-Bop in 1987. The following year brought a deal with RCA, which resulted in the 1989 release Em Toda Parte; by then the lineup had expanded into a quartet through the inclusion of electronic programmer R.H. Jackson, previously of Nomenclatura. That effort merged the band’s foundational Pink Floyd leanings with touches reminiscent of Echo and the Bunnymen alongside the Cure. Occasional performances persisted, culminating in the 1996 live recording Vivo issued by Record Runner. Separately, Fábio Golfetti put out the solo single Ópera Invisível on Wop-Bop in 1989, and later delivered two full-length efforts: the 1993 LP Invisible Opera: Glissando spirit via Low Life and the 1997 CD Cosmic Dance: From Astral Amazonian Jungles to Remote Himalayan Regions on Nova Sampa.
