Biography
O Terço ranks among Brazil’s most influential rock acts of the 1970s. Blending gutsy rock & roll, prog rock, folk rock, heavy metal, and funk, the band formed in 1968 and has endured with guitarist Sérgio Hinds at its core. Vinícius Cantuária played drums in the original lineup before embarking on his own career as a composer and solo performer. The group’s debut LP appeared in 1970, yet its creative peak arrived in 1975 with the third album Criaturas da Noite, whose arrangements were supplied by Rogério Duprat and which ultimately sold 500,000 copies. At the time the lineup also featured Sérgio Magrão and Flávio Venturini; the latter departed in 1979 to establish 14 Bis. During the 1980s O Terço began touring the U.S. and Europe, which led to greater recognition outside Brazil than at home. In 1994 the ensemble issued Live at the Pallace, backed by a symphonic orchestra under the direction of Rogério Duprat.
