Biography
Virginia Nascimento-Högl, who performs primarily under her given name, works as a producer, vocalist, and selector whose Brazilian roots inform her Berlin base. Her output bridges mainstream and underground club sounds by weaving classic pop and R&B threads into deep-house and minimal-techno frameworks. Since 2012 she has held a residency at Berghain’s Panorama Bar, where her sets fuse electro and house cuts with her own warm, sensuous singing. Early recognition arrived when she lent vocals to Tom Novy’s 1999 Ibiza anthem “I Rock,” and later she joined the Ostgut Ton roster, which issued her dance-pop album Fierce for the Night in 2016.
Munich-born and raised, Virginia first built her career as a singer, songwriter, and vocal arranger. In the late 1990s she contributed to several tracks by local house producer Tom Novy, achieving international success with the 1999 single “I Rock.” She soon began DJ tours that led to residencies in Munich and Frankfurt, all while continuing to appear as a featured vocalist on recordings by Jam & Spoon, Shik Stylkø, and B-Zet. Under her full birth name, Virginia Nascimento, she issued the debut EP Frankfurt in 2006 and the B-Zet-produced full-length Twisted Mind two years later. Between 2009 and 2010 she explored a minimal-house direction through collaborations with Abe Duque on “Following My Heart,” Marc Poppcke on “See My Eyes,” and Butch on the Area Remote releases “From Above” and “Mass Appeal.”
After moving to Berlin she joined Steffi on the 2011 club single “Yours” and began her Panorama Bar residency the following year. Signing with the Berghain-affiliated Ostgut Ton label, she debuted her own productions with the 2013 Loch & Hill EP. In 2015 she returned with My Fantasy and supplied vocals for “Treasure Seeking,” a track produced by Steffi and Dexter. Those two artists, together with Martyn, shaped her 2016 album Fierce for the Night, the label’s most pop-leaning release to date. Three years afterward she and Steffi teamed again for the electro-techno double-EP Work a Change.
