Biography
After years performing with his established raucous tavern ensemble Theodore, St. Louis songwriter and guitarist Justin Kinkel-Schuster linked up with drummer and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bryant in Pittsboro, Mississippi. On impulse the pair captured several of Kinkel-Schuster’s minimalist pieces. Within days Theodore dissolved, most of its members regrouping as the new outfit Demonlover, while Kinkel-Schuster shifted residence to Mississippi and there he and Bryant formally launched Water Liars. Those impromptu tapes received modest refinement and surfaced as the band’s first album, Phantom Limb, issued in February 2012. Steady touring filled the following twelve months, after which the sophomore release Wyoming appeared in early 2013. Further road work led the duo to expand into a trio by adding G.R. Robinson ahead of Water Liars’ self-titled third album, which arrived in early 2014.
