A New York native now based in Los Angeles, Andrew Watt works as a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose melodic, guitar-driven hard rock fuses deep hooks with bluesy swagger. From the age of sixteen he sharpened his skills both live and in the studio. Entry into the industry came when he slipped into a Roots soundcheck, took on gofer duties, and eventually sat in with the group; his performance earned their approval and opened doors to key industry figures. Although he enrolled at NYU’s Clive Davis School of Music, he left to accompany singer-songwriter Jared Evan on a European tour. Back in New York without funds, he sustained himself by performing inside the Bowery outpost of John Varvatos—once the site of CBGB—until he secured a slot with pop artist Cody Simpson, joining world tours that included opening dates for Justin Bieber. Watt’s friendship with Bieber soon led to writing and production work for the pop star and additional pop acts. In 2013 he formed the hard-rock power trio California Breed alongside Glenn Hughes and Jason Bonham; the band issued its self-titled debut album the next year before disbanding. Watt signed with John Varvatos Records in 2015 and issued his first solo EP, Ghost in My Head, whose drum tracks were supplied by Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Joey Castillo, formerly of Queens of the Stone Age and Danzig. While continuing to develop his own recordings over the following two years, he also crafted material for pop artists such as Selena Gomez, Bebe Rexha, and Hailee Steinfeld. The initial release from his forthcoming solo album arrived in 2017 under the moniker Watt: the bluesy single “Burning Man,” which featured Post Malone.
