Biography
Wrangler Brutes came together in 2001 as a vibrant and defiant thrash/hardcore unit in Los Angeles, CA, built around scene veterans that included vocalist Sam McPheeters, formerly of Born Against and Men's Recovery Project, guitarist Andy Coronado of Skull Control and Monorchid, drummer Brooks Headley from Born Against and Universal Order of Armageddon, and bassist Cundo Si Murad of Nazti Skins. On their own, the group put out an eponymous cassette-only demo before Kill Rock Stars selected them to record their first official album with Steve Albini. The resulting October 2004 release, Zulu, stood out for its references to vintage thrash and hardcore even as it stayed fiercely rooted in the moment.
