From his early fascination with urban sounds and a preference for dance over vocal performance, Yanko formed the ensemble MC Rap while just 15 years old in Havana, Cuba, his birthplace. The Latin rap group soon secured a spot on the well-known television program La Movida, which was presented by the singer and actress Veronica Castro. Ultimately opting for an individual path, Yanko embarked on travels through Mexico to showcase his initial releases, one of which was Mi Forma de Vivir, crafted under the production of Isidro Infante.
