Yesung first gained widespread attention as a member of the powerhouse K-pop act Super Junior, whose international chart dominance and global tours helped elevate his profile across multiple continents. While the group reached new heights of popularity in Korea during the early 2010s, the vocalist launched a parallel path in acting that encompassed both screen roles and theatrical performances beginning in the late 2000s. After establishing himself within the band, he moved into solo territory with a string of EPs, starting with his 2016 debut Here I Am, and later delivered his initial full-length project, the Japanese-language album Story, in 2019. His first Korean studio album, Sensory Flows, arrived in 2023.

Born Kim Jong-woon in Seoul, he cultivated his vocal skills early by entering singing competitions during his teenage years and later joined SM Entertainment as a trainee. Taking the stage name Yesung, he was selected for Super Junior in late 2005. The ensemble placed two albums inside the Korean Top Three before achieving broader breakthrough success in 2009 via the worldwide single “Sorry, Sorry,” after which the group maintained consistent chart presence in Korea, China, and Japan. Alongside these activities, Yesung participated in the subunits Super Junior-K.R.Y. and Super Junior-H as well as the project group S.M. The Ballad, while also pursuing acting credits on television and in stage productions.

Beyond the main ensemble, he recorded with Sungmin and Jang Hye Jin before issuing his first standalone single, “Blind,” which featured on 2014’s S.M. The Ballad Vol. 2 - Breath. The EP Here I Am followed in 2016, its title track settling just outside the Korean Top 40. Spring Falling appeared the next year and included the well-received “Paper Umbrella,” coinciding with Super Junior’s eighth album Play, their seventh Korean chart-topper. After a comparatively quiet 2018, Yesung returned in 2019 with the Super Junior release Time_Slip plus two solo projects: his Japanese debut Story on Avex Trax, which reached number seven in Japan, and the ballad-focused Korean EP Pink Magic.

His first release of the new decade came with the 2021 EP Beautiful Night. In 2023 he issued Sensory Flows, his debut Korean-language full-length, followed one month later by the expanded edition Floral Sense, which incorporated additional smoothed-out ballads. Both projects entered the Korean Top Four.
