Yoav

Hailing from Cape Town, South Africa, the progressive singer-songwriter Yoav displayed an early fascination with music. By his teenage years he was already composing songs prolifically; he left college and headed to London for a year to pitch a demo of his material, yet attracted minimal attention from record companies. A phone call from his cousin—who had forwarded that same demo to a producer in the United States—prompted Yoav’s relocation to New York City, where he started performing at local venues. During this period his attention turned increasingly toward electronic music and the surrounding club and dance scenes. Seeking to blend those textures into his established singer-songwriter approach, he developed a rhythmic, percussive guitar technique that became the foundation for his new compositions. In 2006 he relocated to the U.K., circulated his latest recordings among various labels, and ultimately signed with Field Recordings. His debut album, Charmed & Strange, appeared in 2008, followed by Foolproof Escape Plan in 2010.
