Your Friend

Your Friend functions as the performing alias for Lawrence, Kansas-based singer/songwriter Taryn Blake Miller, who launched the project initially as a solo endeavor. She developed her enigmatic songs through live performances that relied on atmospheric guitar work paired with a soaring voice. Word-of-mouth momentum and a series of high-energy house shows propelled her toward larger stages, where she frequently assembled a rotating cast of local musicians for support while securing opening slots alongside national touring acts. A recording agreement with Domino Records followed, prompting Miller to begin shaping her debut EP alongside co-producer Jordan Geiger of Hospital Ships; together they expanded her dreamy indie rock anthems through added layers of bass, drums, keyboards, and vocals. The resulting, widely discussed Jekyll/Hyde appeared in early 2014. Once a major tour in support of the EP concluded, Miller returned to Kansas to compose songs for her first full-length album, which she tracked in Brooklyn, New York, under producer Nicolas Vernhes of the War on Drugs and Deerhunter. Domino issued the highly textured LP Gumption in January 2016.
