Adam Deitch works as both a drummer and producer, bringing versatility to performances grounded in jazz, hip-hop, and funk. He helped establish the Grammy-nominated jam band Lettuce and forms one half of the electronic and hip-hop production duo Break Science alongside Borham Lee. Additional projects have connected him with John Scofield, Average White Band, Talib Kweli, and Ledisi. As owner of the Golden Wolf Records label, he has issued his own jazz-funk albums, among them Egyptian Secrets in 2019 and Take Your Time in 2023.

Adam Deitch entered the world in New York City in 1976 and spent his childhood in Nyack inside a creative home where both parents taught and performed music after completing drum studies at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. Frequent visits from other musicians and his parents’ record collection, which held titles by Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire, John Coltrane, and Herbie Hancock, shaped his early environment. He started drum lessons young and developed a deep interest in hip-hop. After high school he followed his parents to Berklee, sharpening his funk, jazz, and rock technique under teachers such as Dennis Montgomery III and Dave DiCenso. While in Boston he co-founded Lettuce with fellow students, and the band has since produced a series of albums.

Once he finished his studies, Deitch stayed with Lettuce and replaced Steve Ferrone on drums in Average White Band. The move generated further live and studio work, including a tour with the Fugees. He also joined guitarist John Scofield’s band, appearing on Uberjam, Uberjam Deux, and Up All Night. Around the same time he launched Break Science with Borham Lee. Production credits include sessions with 50 Cent, Redman, Talib Kweli, and Matisyahu. In 2010 the Fyre Dept. production team earned him a Grammy Award nomination for Best R&B Album for his contributions to Ledisi’s Turn Me Loose. A second nomination arrived in 2019 for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, shared with Lettuce for Elevate.

Since 2014 Deitch has run Golden Wolf Records, releasing his funk-jazz projects on the label. Egyptian Secrets from 2019 featured organist Will Blades, trumpeter Eric “Benny” Bloom, saxophonist Ryan Zoidis, and a guest appearance by John Scofield. The hip-hop-infused Take Your Time followed in 2023.
