New age multi-instrumentalist Aeoliah (Ay-oh-lee-ya) has earned celebrity recognition for the potent healing properties his music conveys. Because he regards sound and light as carriers of spiritual energy, Aeoliah creates impressionistic works that reflect this conviction.
Born in Germany and raised in the United States, he began performing as a teenager on both violin and piano. After earning a fine-arts degree with honors from the University of New Mexico in 1972, Aeoliah uncovered his distinctive voice in 1979 while producing the musical painting Music of the Spheres, an experience that revealed his ability to generate inspirational electronic layers. The following year he released his first album, Inner Sanctum, and continued issuing numerous recordings over the subsequent two decades.
His atmospheric soundscapes, marked by eclectic celestial colors and classical underpinnings, have reshaped the contours of new age music. During the mid-1980s and 1990s Aeoliah gained widespread commercial attention: his albums appeared prominently in major retail outlets, and the chart-topping 1985 release Angel Love found particular favor in Hollywood circles. Marla Maples singled out Angel Love for its calming qualities, noting that the music supported her through the 1993 pregnancy and birth of her daughter Tiffany. Hospitals and medical practitioners likewise turn to Aeoliah’s work for its restorative calm. In addition to his recordings, he received recognition as an author with the 1990s publications Awakening Your Inner Light and Secret Gardens of the Heart.
