Alfie Templeman

British singer Alfie Templeman infuses his funky, dance-oriented pop with a youthful sincerity and a songwriting maturity that belies his age. He first appeared in his mid-teens, releasing a run of EPs that grew steadily more successful and culminated in the 2022 arrival of his debut full-length, Mellow Moon. That set led the U.K. Independent Albums chart and opened the door for 2024’s Radiosoul, which included a contribution from guitarist Nile Rodgers.

Templeman entered the world in 2003 into a musical Bedfordshire household where his father amassed guitars and his older sister played piano; he soon took up instruments himself. Drum lessons began at age seven, yet the guitar quickly became his focus, and by thirteen he had taught himself recording software. At first he produced only instrumentals, but his mother encouraged singing lessons that prompted him to compose complete songs. By 2018 he had assembled his first EP, Like an Animal, issued on Chess Club when he was fifteen. Two further EPs followed in 2019: Sunday Morning Cereal in June and Don’t Go Wasting Time in November.

July 2020 brought a fourth EP, Happiness in Liquid Form, whose songs were co-written with former Kaiser Chiefs drummer Nick Hodgson and Justin Young of the Vaccines. After several such releases, Templeman’s 2021 project Forever Isn’t Long Enough adopted a broader scope; although it fell between album and EP in length, it was later classified as an EP once his first proper album appeared the following year. Released in May 2022, Mellow Moon fused R&B, pop, folk, and rock into funky, melodic, danceable tracks while candidly addressing his mental-health challenges, which he described as a “safe space to get away from anxieties.” The album topped the U.K. Independent Albums chart and reached number 31 on the pop chart.

Moving beyond EPs, Templeman prepared his second full-length album. The funk-driven single “Eyes Wide Shut” preceded Radiosoul, which arrived in June 2024 and featured production from Will Bloomfield, Josh Scarbrow, Karma Kid, and others. Legendary Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers also joined the sessions, co-producing and playing on the single “Just a Dance.”
