Biography
Dave Scher and Jimi Hey, both members of Beachwood Sparks, launched All Night Radio in 2002 once Hey rejoined that band after a five-year hiatus. The name paid tribute to Scher's own era of overnight broadcasts. As early as 1995—well before the pair shared a stage in Beachwood Sparks—the sixteen-year-old Hey phoned Scher's KXLU program nightly to request Six Finger Satellite. Scher and Hey treated the new project as an outlet for their more experimental impulses, yielding a style that referenced prog-rock ensembles, above all Yes, as well as arena-rock outfits. The duo issued only one album, Spirit Stereo Frequency, in 2004 and dissolved soon afterward by mutual consent. Five years later, performing as Farmer Dave Scher, Scher released the solo LP Flash Forward to the Good Times, which carried forward much of the same sensibility that had defined his work in All Night Radio.
