Biography
Among the Oak & Ash formed as a duo from the established singer/songwriters Josh Joplin and Garrison Starr. Joplin, who resides in New York, and Starr, based in Nashville, first crossed paths while each toured independently with their own material. Joplin proposed that the pair join forces to capture an album devoted to traditional folk music, and they finished the self-titled project in six days before securing any record deal. Verve Forecast subsequently acquired the recording, issuing Among the Oak & Ash on June 16, 2009, as the duo maintained a spring tour in support of the release.
