Born Adam Ohana in New York, the Oakland, California electronic producer known as An-Ten-Nae merges rumbling low-end frequencies with fractured, atmospheric textures in the hybrid he calls acid crunk. His exploratory approach surfaced initially on the 2008 EP Acid Crunk 1, followed later that same year by a second installment; three further volumes appeared in 2009, with Acid Crunk 3 marking the first entry to contain multiple tracks. Ten editions of the series had been completed by 2012. The producer’s first full-length album, Raindrops on Roses, arrived in 2013 and contained the title track recorded with Alice D., his reworking of Pair of Arrows’ “Vestige,” and “Unplug from the Machine,” which spotlighted his LowRIDERz project. In 2014 he launched the Dimond Saints collaboration with fellow Bay Area artist Releece, releasing multiple EPs before delivering the album Prism in the Dark. Under the An-Ten-Nae name he issued the follow-up LP Transmissions in 2015. After the single “Baratang” with Soo Han, he presented his third album, Medicine, on Muti Music. The record emphasized hypnotic instrumentals and worldwide stylistic touches on pieces that carried less emphasis on bass weight than the earlier Acid Crunk material, incorporating “Running with Shadows” with vocalist Amelia Rae and the Maori haka-infused “Kia Toa.”
