After the 1997 dissolution of her band that dog., guitarist and vocalist Anna Waronker launched her solo endeavors. What became the group’s final release, Retreat From the Sun, had originally been conceived as her debut effort, yet five additional years passed before she pursued another project. As the offspring of renowned producer Lenny Waronker, she supplied compositions for both cinema and small-screen productions. Her contributions included songs for the 2001 adolescent film Josie and the Pussycats along with the arrangement of the theme song for the UPN sitcom Clueless, which aired from 1996 to 1999. Venturing further into music-industry operations, Anna teamed with her spouse Steve McDonald of Redd Kross to produce the clever third album On by Imperial Teen. Joining forces with her sister-in-law Charlotte Caffey from the Go-Go’s, she established the Five Foot Two label at the beginning of 2001. This venture afforded her the opportunity to explore personal creative paths. On her official first solo album Anna, released in the summer of 2002, Anna Waronker delivered a raw pop aesthetic complemented by intricate and opulent vocal layers.
