Annika Chambers launched her recording career in the early 2010s after two army tours, channeling soul, funk, and gospel influences through her high-energy blues material. The Houston native’s first album, Making My Mark, appeared in 2014; her third, Kiss My Sass, reached the Billboard blues chart’s top five in 2019.

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Chambers sang in church as a child and absorbed the styles of gospel vocalists Shirley Caesar, Whitney Houston, and Yolanda Adams. While stationed overseas, a colonel heard her sing and asked her to perform the national anthem at a base ceremony. Demand for her voice soon extended to other military events, leading her to join a band that toured the Middle East entertaining troops.

After returning to Houston in 2011, she assembled Annika Chambers and the House Rules Band, winning support from Blues Hall of Fame inductee Larry Fulcher of the Phantom Blues Band and from Montrose Records owner-producer Richard Cagle. Her debut album, credited to Annika Chambers & the Houston All-Stars and released by Montrose in 2014, earned a Best New Artist nomination at the 2015 Blues Music Awards.

Cagle, Fulcher, and drummer Tony Braunagel produced the follow-up, Wild & Free, with Fulcher and Braunagel also forming the rhythm section; issued by Under the Radar Music Group under Chambers’s name alone, it entered the Billboard blues albums chart at number seven and brought festival bookings across North America, South America, and Europe. The same team, including Chambers, produced her third album and first Vizztone release, Kiss My Sass, in 2019; it reached the top twenty-five of the Heatseekers Albums chart before peaking at number four on the blues chart.
