Biography
Anthony Newman, recognized as a conductor, composer, and organ virtuoso, came into the world on May 12, 1941, in Los Angeles and went on to study in Paris with Nadia Boulanger and Pierre Cochereau. Earning a Diplome Superieur from the Ecole Normale de Musique, he later returned to the U.S. for further training with composers Leon Kirchner and Luciano Berio, after which his output grew to encompass five concertos, three orchestral sinfonias, and an array of works for piano and organ. A prolific recording artist whose catalog reached nearly 150 albums spanning material from the 17th century to the modern era, Newman also taught at Juilliard and headed the graduate music program at Purchase College of the State University of New York.
