Anthony Valadez

Exposure to the eclectic programming on KCRW, the public radio outlet located on the Santa Monica College campus, first cultivated Anthony Valadez's broad musical tastes. After growing up in the San Fernando Valley, he started spinning records in clubs and later secured on-air roles at KCSN of California State University Northridge, listener-supported KPFK in Los Angeles, and KCRW itself. His entry into remixing and production came in 2004 through collaborations with Carlos Niño's AmmonContact and Nick Rosen. A connection with Record Breakin' led to a 2008 single that featured his former neighbor Flying Lotus, followed by the 2009 album Audio/Visual: Sounds Inspired by All Things Visual. He subsequently signed with Plug Research—the same imprint for which he had previously remixed AmmonContact—and issued Just Visiting in 2012 along with In Search Of in 2014. These projects blended relaxed, unconventional elements of R&B and rap while showcasing contributions from Damon Aaron, Miles Bonny, Jimetta Rose, and Kathrin deBoer of Belleruche.
