Bloomington, Indiana's Apache Dropout trio, distinct from the unrelated U.K. act that shared the name in the early 2000s, channels the swaggering stomp and hallucinatory atmosphere of 1960s psychedelia through its boogie-infused rock approach. Original members singer-guitarist Sonny Blood, bassist-singer Anu Nath, and drummer Lord Fyre issued several singles on Magnetic South, Mexican Summer, and Trouble in Mind from 2009 to 2011. Their self-titled debut LP, whose horn charts and cover art came from John Terrill of Dancing Cigarettes while Paul "Z" Mahern of the Zero Boys handled engineering duties, surfaced in 2011 and drew strong praise in MOJO and Uncut. The following summer they delivered Bubblegum Graveyard, their second full-length effort, again via Trouble in Mind. Family Vineyard issued Magnetic Heads in 2013, a compilation that gathered the band's densely distorted early cassette recordings. Two years later Apache Dropout joined forces with Magnetic South Recordings for Heavy Window, its next proper album, now featuring bassist Nathan Warrick and drummer Seth Mahern after Nath and Fyre had departed.
