Originating from California, Austin Cesear later settled in New York City’s Brooklyn borough, where he crafts downcast experimental and ambient techno. He received no formal musical instruction during his formative years, yet a high-school class introduced him to the production software Reason. Hardware elements eventually became part of his working method. After signing with Public Information, he issued his first album, Cruise Forever, in July 2012; the striking release situated him alongside Vatican Shadow and Andy Stott, drawing evident influence from recordings by Terrence Dixon, Robert Hood, and Basic Channel. Public Information followed up just months later with Cesear’s Deep Breakfast Mixtape, an extremely limited CD-R containing original material. February 2014 saw the appearance of a more dancefloor-oriented effort, There’s a Crack in Everything, issued on Proibito. The ensuing month brought a split release with Stefan Jós, available on cassette and as a digital download. Within several months Public Information presented the six-track EP West Side.
