Biography
Born Ahmad Azhar bin Othman on November 24, 1968, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Awie served as lead vocalist and a central figure in the Malaysian rock act Wings. Internal tensions drove him to exit the group and pursue a solo path, where moderate success followed via four albums—Satu, Otak, Awie Unplugged, and Santai—along with his initial foray into film acting, an endeavor that grew to encompass more than 15 features by the 2008 release of Antoo Fighter. Wings struggled to align their replacement frontman with audience expectations, prompting Awie’s 2002 return and the band’s resumption of activity.
