B*Witched

Ireland's teenage foursome B*Witched became the youngest girl group to reach the summit of the British pop singles chart. The lineup featured lead singer Edele Lynch, her twin sister Keavy on guitar, keyboardist Sinead O'Carroll, and guitarist Lindsay Armaou. Motivated by the chart success of the Lynch sisters' sibling Shane, who performed with Boyzone, the four committed themselves to prolonged practice and songwriting before inking a deal with the Glow Worm imprint run by producer Ray Hedges, whose résumé already included work for Boyzone and Bros. Advance buzz surrounded the quartet even before its debut single appeared; "C'Est La Vie" entered the U.K. chart at number one upon release in late May 1998. Its successor, "Rollercoaster," likewise opened in the top spot when it arrived in mid-September. The band's self-titled first album followed one month afterward, and the group resurfaced in the autumn of 1999 with Awake and Breathe.
