Biography
The Chicago-based indie rock trio Bang! Bang! characterizes its output as "sex rock," packing enough raw energy and frantic rhythms to spark an erotic revolution on its own, even though the heated volleys of densely packed guitar and thunderous drums steer clear of quiet storm territory. The band came together in 2002 after guitarist and vocalist Jack Flash crossed paths with bassist and vocalist Gretta Fine; depending on the telling, they either met at a party or Flash caught sight of Fine roller-skating in lingerie. In either case the two formed a romantic partnership and chose to funnel their chemistry into songwriting. Recruiting drummer Mike Wednesday, they began playing Chicago clubs in 2003 and launched short tours before the year closed. The group issued its self-released debut EP, the seven-song Do You Like It?, in 2004, with the five-song Electric Sex arriving the following year. Bang! Bang! joined Baltimore-based Morphius Records for its first full-length, Decked Out, released in 2006. A second album, The Dirt That Makes You Drown, appeared a year later and brought personnel shifts: Mike Wednesday exited, Nick Kraska (ex-New Back) took over on drums, and keyboardist Rachel Shindelman began appearing onstage and in the studio as a part-time member.
