Biography
Benny Reid plays alto saxophone and pursues jazz with an inventive outlook that fuses broad post-bop improvisational stretches and evocative modern jazz writing. He entered the world in Westfield, NJ, in 1980, where his parents nurtured an early appreciation for the genre. These dedicated jazz collectors guided him toward recordings by pivotal figures such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and additional masters. Reid began studying the saxophone in second grade, maintained his involvement through high school, and later attended Indiana University to pursue formal music training, earning his degree in 2002. Concord Records issued his first solo album, Findings, in 2007. Two years later the same label released his follow-up project Escaping Shadows, which contained nine original compositions along with a version of Pat Metheny’s “Always and Forever.”
