From a very young age, even prior to starting school, Beth Quist was already engaged in musical performance, frequently seated at a piano beginning at two years old. Her talents progressed rapidly as she refined her technique and turned to songwriting. She completed her first original piece, "I'm A Little Leopard Prowling Around In Sneakers", upon reaching eight. Discovery of her four-octave soprano range followed soon after. Lucidity marked her entry into recording in 1995, blending Middle Eastern and Balkan influences throughout. The album's artwork sparked controversy, yet it promptly drew the interest of Bobby McFerrin, leading to an invitation for Quist to provide vocals on his Circlesongs project and to join his "Voicestra" for live performances. A 1998 commission tasked her with creating nine compositions for choreographers located in Boulder, Colorado, culminating in the release of Shall We Dance as her next album. This work evoked comparisons to Peter Gabriel's Passion. Among her many collaborations, Quist has appeared alongside Jenny Bird, Dave Beegle, and Sherefe, while also gracing stages at the Oregon Country Fair and the Fourth Annual Rocky Mountain Guitar Show.
