Biography
Formed around the foundation of Big Head Todd & the Monsters, Big Head Blues Club adds Cedric Burnside—grandson of blues great R.L. Burnside—alongside guitarist Lightnin’ Malcolm and singer Ruthie Foster, with a rotating cast of blues legends that has featured B.B. King, David Honeyboy Edwards, Hubert Sumlin, and Charlie Musselwhite. The project took shape from the Blues at the Crossroads tour, staged to mark country bluesman Robert Johnson’s 100th birthday. Once assembled and expanded, the musicians headed to Memphis’s legendary Ardent Studios with producer Chris Goldsmith to capture an album of songs tied to Johnson, who only ever recorded 29 songs, all during the years 1936 and 1937. The resulting 100 Years of Robert Johnson surfaced in 2011 on Ryko/Big Records.
