Biography
The Big Tymers took shape around Cash Money Records co-founder Brian "Baby" Williams and the label’s chief in-house producer Mannie Fresh, quickly becoming fixtures who lent their presence to the majority of Cash Money releases while also issuing their own catalog. Their first recording appeared in 1998 as How You Luv That?, only to receive a modest revision and reissue later that same year as How You Luv That?, Vol. 2 once Cash Money finalized its distribution arrangement with Universal Records. On the follow-ups I Got That Work (2000) and Hood Rich (2002), both Williams and Mannie Fresh sharpened their microphone skills and, more crucially, their songcraft, yielding multiple standout tracks such as “Get Your Roll On” and “#1 Stunna” from the former and “Still Fly” and “Oh Yeah!” from the latter. The 2003 effort Big Money Heavyweight met with diminished returns, and after Mannie Fresh exited Cash Money in the wake of his own solo project The Mind of Mannie Fresh (2004), the duo brought their joint recording activity to a close. Williams, now recording as Birdman, pursued a solo path that frequently paired him with Lil Wayne (whom he referred to as his “son”), while Mannie Fresh concentrated on his ongoing production work.
