Biography
Billy Bob Thornton, recognized as an Oscar-winning talent across acting, directing, writing, and music, spent his Arkansas childhood with a father employed as a high school basketball coach and a mother who practiced as a psychic. He first picked up drums at age twelve and later performed in high school with a cover ensemble devoted to Creedence Clearwater Revival. Following college, Thornton played throughout Arkansas and Texas with regional groups such as Blue & the Blue Velvets, Nothin' Doin', Cottonwood, and Hot 'Lanta at various colleges and high schools. In the early 1980s, Nothin' Doin' transformed into Tres Hombres, a ZZ Top cover band. After establishing himself in Hollywood, Thornton returned to music by cutting an album. The dark and personal Private Radio appeared in 2001 on Uptown, an imprint of Universal, produced and co-written with country legend Marty Stuart and featuring contributions from Nashville's finest session players. Sanctuary issued Edge of the World in 2003, Hobo arrived on the Big Deal label in 2005, and Beautiful Door followed in 2007. Thornton has also guested on Earl Scruggs and Friends by Earl Scruggs, Distance Between by the Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, and The Wind by Warren Zevon.
