Biography
Birth revolves around a solitary figure, the enigmatic vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Dawm Lanten, who records as DL. A contract with Hut Records first placed Lanten before listeners and journalists through the singles ‘Sweet Idol’ and ‘Found A Way Out’. May 2000 brought the release of the widely praised debut album Gotten Bold, which displayed both melodic traditional pop craftsmanship and the artist’s refined, soulful delivery. Lanten named the underrated UK singer Jess Roden as a key influence. Although Gotten Bold drew on pure guitar pop, R&B, and 60s rock textures, the record retained a current character amid its backward-looking references. Several top session players supported DL, among them Blue Weaver, the Bee Gees’ longtime keyboardist.
